Thermal Troubleshooting

The Personal Workstation a-Series operates in an ambient temperature range of 10° to 40°C. Three fans cool the system unit: one fan is in the upper front for the CPU; one is in the lower front for the expansion cards; and one is in the power supply.

The power supply contains a fan-fail detector that shuts down power after a one(1-)-second delay if its internal fan fails. The two front fan cables are connected to the riser card.

Intermittent system problems may result from overheating. Check that the air flow path is clear. Also, make sure there are no materials (dust, paper, and so forth) blocking the input grill. Check and clean the fan air holes in the chassis (with the front bezel removed).

Check to see that the cables inside the system are properly dressed. Note: A dangling cable will impede airflow.
