Fan Replacement

To replace a fan, shut down the system, remove power, remove the system cover, refer to the figure, and perform one of the following procedures:

Upper Fan Replacement
Lower Fan Replacement

Upper Fan Replacement
  1. Put on your ESD wriststrap.
  2. Remove the front bezel.
  3. Remove the fan pipe.
  4. Disconnect the upper fan cable from J22 on the riser card.
  5. Press down on the two upper fan housing tabs and tilt the housing backward.
  6. Lift the housing out of the chassis as you guide the fan cable along the side.
  7. Remove the old fan from the housing.
  8. Insert the new fan, label side first, into the housing. Guide the cable into the lower notch in the side of the housing nearest to the CPU.
  9. Mount the housing onto the chassis.
  10. Run the cable down the side (along side the control panel cable).
  11. Connect the cable to J22 on the riser card.
  12. Replace the fan pipe.

Lower Fan Replacement

HINT: Rest the system on its side while replacing the lower fan.

  1. Put on your ESD wriststrap.
  2. Remove the front bezel.
  3. Disconnect the lower fan cable from J23 on the riser card.
  4. Press the fan/speaker housing tab (1) to release it from the chassis and swing the housing backward.
  5. Lift the housing out of the chassis and rest it on the front storage area.
  6. Remove the old fan from the housing.
  7. Insert the new fan, label side first, into the housing. Guide the cable through the notch in the inner side near the top of the housing.
  8. Mount the housing onto the chassis.
  9. Connect the cable to J23 on the riser card.
