Riser Card Replacement

To replace the riser card, shut down the system, remove power, remove the system cover, refer to the figure, and perform the following procedure:

HINT: Use a magnetic-tipped Philips screwdriver.
  1. Put on your ESD wriststrap.
  2. Remove the left side cover and the MLB-retaining bracket (the bracket may be discarded).
  3. Carefully set the system enclosure into its left side.
  4. Extract the MLB until it is slightly away from the riser card connector.
  5. Remove all of the PCI and ISA option cards.
  6. Remove the fan/speaker housing and rest it on the front-accessible storage bay.
  7. Disconnect all of the cables plugged into the riser card.
  8. Remove the six mounting screws using a magnetic-tipped Philips screwdriver.
  9. Carefully tilt the bottom of the riser card upward and out of the enclosure.
  10. Insert the new riser card, top edge first, into the enclosure while ensuring that no cables get caught behind the card.

  14. While holding the fan/speaker housing, connect the fan cable to J23 on the riser card.
  15. Insert the tab of the fan/speaker housing into the chassis slot. Ensure that the fan cable is routed through the slot in the housing. Swing the housing into position until the locking tab snaps into place.
  16. Replace the PCI and ISA option cards. (If a SCSI adapter is present, attach the hard disk activity cable to J10 on the riser card.)
  17. Set the system enclosure in the upright position.
  18. Reinsert the MLB.
  19. Replace the left side cover.
  20. Replace the cables and the system cover.
